FAQs
Do the products contain Parabens? Print E-mail

No, they don't.

Are there preservatives in body-botanix products? Print E-mail

A preservative is an issue that has to be considered very carefully when manufacturing natural products.  The product has to still be safe, and not only when it is manufactured and on the shelves, but also while it is being used and may be exposed to contaminated fingers and the environment.

We investigated all the preservation systems on the market, all natural and synthetic, and after much consideration decided on a balance between efficacy, safety profile and environmental impact.  Our preservative in our water based products is not all natural but is the safest on the market with no side effects.  We’ve added natural boosters to ensure we use as little as necessary.   We do not use parabens, formaldehyde donors or any preservatives with known side effects like skin sensitization.

Our body scrubs do not contain any preservatives, utilizing the anti-microbial properties of the salt and the rosemary extract which is sufficient for an oil based system.  For the washes and bath soaks we used the widely used, globally-accepted preservative (including Japan), phenoxyethanol, with a proven preservative-enhancer, caprylyl glycol.

Phenoxyethanol has been tested on skin and eyes and it is non-irritating and non-sensitizing.  It has one of the best safety profiles on the market. Phenoxyethanol is approved by the Soil Association.

Is Phenoxyethanol natural? Print E-mail

Phenoxyethanol can be derived from natural resources but is also available synthetically.  In most applications the synthetic version is used as it is more freely available.

Phenoxyethanol is one of very few synthetic preservatives that are accepted as tolerable by ECOCERT.

Do the products contain Mineral oil? Print E-mail

No, we use only natural oils as they are more compatible with your skin and enhances the skins own natural functions.

Do the products contain Sodium Lauryl or Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS or SLES)? Print E-mail

No, we've used the naturally derived Glucosides - derived from sugars that are much more gentle and biodegradable.

Are the products suitable for sensitive skins? Print E-mail

The ingredients we use have been carefully chosen for their mildness and benefits to the skin.

What is the main active ingredient in the home spa treatment range? Print E-mail

The main active ingredient in all our home spa products is Shea butter.  Shea butter, also known as Karite butter or Butyrospermum parkii, is a cream-coloured fatty substance made from the nuts of karite nut trees that grow in the savannah regions of West and Central Africa.

Karite trees, or shea trees, are not cultivated. They grow only in the wild, and can take up to 50 years to mature and they live up to 300 years.
